These birds are basically laughing at us. They know we came here to see the puffins and they know that most of the puffins have retreated for the summer. I heard one say "Good luck dudes, you know they began migrating weeks ago, right?"
This common tern knows that she is not the main act today or any day. She is one of the opening acts for the famous puffins. Her job is to entertain the passengers aboard this ferry and to warm up this photographer until we get to the land of the puffins.
The 7 days a week workers hauling in the day's catch on a Summer eve. My guess is that the two will belly up to the bar at the top of the dock for at least a pint before an early night. At least that is what I would do.
